A CARDIFF-BASED start-up has found its own perfect match in the form of a dating company run by a television presenter.
GroupOut, a Cardiff-based business that promotes niche events to single people via online channels has formed what it described as a strategic relationship with the international dating website MySingleFriend.com, which is run by Channel 4 presenter Sarah Beeny.
Dating websites have become increasingly popular in recent years, with figures from the industry suggesting there are now more than 10 million registered users of dating sites.
But entrepreneur Lisa Darch decided that there was a gap in the market for a business that allowed customers to meet new people in the real world rather than just online.
“Many of my single friends were using dating sites and were telling me that they wanted more chances to meet people, so the idea of offering events just for single people was born earlier this year,” she said.
“The business model is a relatively simple one, we have a bank of quality events that are suitable for people of all ages and interests, and working with dating websites we promote those events in partnership to their members.”
The GroupOut platform has been in development since last summer and trials were carried out with MySingleFriend ahead of its launch.
It now offers singles the chance to meet at events as diverse as caving and pizza-making.
Two more UK dating sites are also looking to add the events platform to their offering.
One of the sites in the final stages of preparation is also based in Wales, the UK Dating Group, with more than 1.5 million members.
Will Miller, the chief executive of MySingleFriend.com said he was pleased to be involved in the partnership with the Cardiff start-up.
